Our pupils recently enjoyed a trip to the pantomime where they had the bonus of watching TA Grace Sherrif perform in Snow White! Grace, who is a professional musical theatre performer has been working with us at Stiwdio Hafod since September and has been a fantastic asset to our team. Well done Grace on a fantastic performance and well done to all pupils whose behaviour was excellent throughout the show!

Pupil project work results in meeting the players!!

The pupils at Stiwdio Hafod were tasked with completing more of their project work today. Some of our pupils have based their project on football so Miss Kat Jones decided that a trip to The Cae Ras was in order! And what a trip it ended up being with the boys getting the opportunity to meet the players and taken into the stands to see the pitch before tomorrows match. Each player was happy to give autographs and have pictures taken to the delight of not only the pupils, but the staff too! The behaviour and manners of all three pupils were exemplary, well done boys! And thank you to the Wrexham AFC players for dedicating their time between training to signing books and posing for pictures.

Stiwdio Hafod is going Yellow for Young Minds this World Mental Health Day

This years World Mental Health Day on the 10^th of October, pupils and staff at Stiwdio Hafod will be wearing something yellow in support of Young Minds, a leading charity who support children and youths with mental ill health. When nature calls!

The garden at Stiwdio Hafod was alive with activity during the weekend. Our caretaker Nick set up his Go-Pro Friday evening by our pupil-built pond in a bid to capture some visitors of the animal kind. And he wasn’t disappointed! From playful squirrels and hungry magpies to a cat who attempted fishing and even a Fox, the pond area had attracted lots of nosy wildlife whilst Stiwdio Hafod lay still. Nick’s next project is to record the under water activities of our resident fish which the pupils are looking forward to seeing.

Cadet Jayden on Remembrance day

On Thursday the 6^th of June, Jayden Burgess took part in the march through Wrexham City as part of the D-Day parade. Kitted out in his full cadet uniform, Jayden marched from the Hightown Barracks with his fellow cadets of the Cambrai Company of the Army Cadet Force. Our Staff and pupils greeted Jayden at the Cenotaph where he was more than happy to pose for pictures. Well done Jayden, Team Hafod are proud of you!

Giraffe on route to Hafod!

Today, we received our email to confirm that Stiwdio Hafod have secured a Bottle Top Giraffe from The British Ironwork Centre and Sculpture Park. The unique recycling project aims to educate children and communities about the importance of protecting our planet whilst inspiring them to think both innovatively and creatively in order to help make important environmental changes. The Giraffe will remain at Stiwdio Hafod from the 9^th of September until the end of October and will be placed on the school yard. Pupils and staff will aim to fill it with bottle tops, both plastic and metal from the feet right up to the neck which stands at 7.4 feet! Should any staff or pupils from either of our sites like to help us, we would be more than happy to receive donations!

Mike Cunningham proudly shows off the JD Welsh League Cup

Stiwdio Pen-y-Cae’s staff member, and Mold Alexandra head coach, Mike Cunningham proudly shows off the JD Welsh Football League Cup that his side triumphed on 20th April. Mike’s team who are fourth in the JD Welsh Premier North League triumphed 4 – 2 over Britton Ferry Llansawel at Latham Park – New Town. Having won the JD Cymru South, Ferry would have fancied their chances in this game but Mike’s well drilled side executed their game plan superbly to come out comfortable winners. Commenting on the victory, Mike said, “I’m unbelievably proud of the team”. Mike, so you should be, just as we’re proud to have you as a member of staff. Dart sensation Luke Littler was in North Wales to show his support for his local football club.

Eisteddfod Stiwdio Hafod!

Ahead of St David’s Day tomorrow (Gwyl Dewi Sant), Stiwdio Hafod held its own Eisteddfod today with the competition being a ‘Biscuit and Cake Bake-Off’. All pupils made an excellent effort and created some fab designs. The Winners were Tyler Elliot (1st), Liam Roberts (2nd) and Keelan Edwards (3rd), each winning an easter egg and trophy cup! Well done to all pupils and staff for a great day.

Could these be the next Boxing Champions??

A huge well done to two of our pupils this week, Riley and Leon, for achieving their Preliminary Boxing Awards through Fighting Back Boxing and Mentoring with Nigel Brett. Both pupils have made excellent progress, with Riley winning a trophy for his continued achievements this term. Well done boys!
